The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is a 2-year professional degree program recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). It is mandatory for teaching at the secondary (Classes 6–10) and senior secondary (Classes 11–12) level in schools across India.
The B.Ed curriculum covers educational philosophy, child psychology, pedagogy of school subjects, curriculum and instruction, school management, and inclusive education. The program includes a semester-long school internship where students practice teaching in real classrooms under the supervision of experienced school teachers and college faculty.
Career Impact: B.Ed graduates are eligible to apply for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), PGT (Post Graduate Teacher), government school teacher posts through BTET, CTET, and STET examinations, and teaching roles in CBSE/ICSE/State Board private schools.
The Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) is a 2-year diploma program approved by NCTE for preparing teachers for Classes 1–8. Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, only D.El.Ed or equivalent qualified teachers are eligible for appointment in government elementary schools.
The D.El.Ed curriculum focuses on child development, learning theories, language teaching, mathematics education, environmental studies, art education, health & physical education, and school culture. The program includes a substantial field practicum with school visits and a full internship in practice schools.
Career Impact: D.El.Ed graduates can appear for CTET (Paper-I), BTET, and state-level primary teacher eligibility tests. Eligible for Primary Teacher and Upper Primary Teacher posts in government and private schools under Bihar's education department.
